Easy Access
Perhaps one of the most attractive qualities of a holiday in the Isle of Anglesey is how compact it is. The entire perimeter of the Isle spans just over 130 miles. In fact, it is possible to walk the entire isle on the Anglesey Coastal Path! Taking only 45 minutes to travel (by car) from one side to the other, getting around this stunning location is pretty easy. It’s not uncommon for UK adventurers to make a day drip out of Anglesey. In just a few hours, guests can enjoy some top attractions. Staying in Anglesey for the weekend, however, provides a fantastic opportunity to really immerse yourself in all that the isle has to offer. Our Anglesey holiday cottages are rather well spread out, allowing you to choose your house according to what you’d like to explore the most.
A World of Attractions
The Isle of Anglesey is dotted with all sorts of interesting things to explore. For starters, the South Stack Lighthouse is a great historical attraction to investigate. It is located on a small island off the northeast coast of Anglesey. The lighthouse is only a 10-minute drive from Holyhead – a historic port town where you can grab a spot of lunch. Moreover, South Stack is only a 30-minute drive from Traeth Borth Wen, where Flounder’s Cottage, Bayview Manor, and Mermaid’s Retreat are located.
Moving East, we find the famous Red Warf Bay, another must-see destination. Red Warf Bay boasts 10 miles of fine, sandy beach at low tide, making it a great destination for beach lovers. Additionally, the area is a designated nature reserve and is particularly fun for birdwatching. Red Warf Bay is roughly 14 miles South of Bull Bay, a village and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which also happens to be where Port House, Lighthouse Lodge, and Starboard Cottage are located.
The Anglesey Coastal Path
One of the most exciting parts of visiting Anglesey is its impressive coastal path. The path covers approximately 130 miles and spans around the isle. It is possible to walk the entire coastal path! So, if you’re someone who likes to take things to the extreme, this could be worth looking into. For those of us who prefer to take things a little easier, the coastal path can still be enjoyed in bits and pieces.
Most of our Anglesey holiday cottages are located in coastal towns and villages, so you’ll never be too far from a beautiful walk in nature. If you’re interested in hiking in Anglesey, check out this list of the Top 10 Anglesey Hiking Trails! There are a number of smaller, circular walks that are definitely worth investigating. For example, Porth llechog to Industrial Ruins is a 4.6-mile loop that starts in Bull Bay. This walk is great for guests staying at our houses in the area!
Quirky Facts
Did you know that the Isle of Anglesey is home to the town with the longest name in all of the UK? And, 2nd longest in the world? Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, located on the Menai Strait, is a popular attraction among tourists. Many a visitor has posed for pictures at the train station, in front of the 58-letter station sign. This uniquely named town is a great starting point for exploring further into Anglesey. Plus, it’s only 7 miles away from the stunning Nant-y-Pandy nature reserve (also known as The Dingle).
Nant-y-Pandy is an incredibly beautiful forest, home to the rare red squirrel. The community in the area have pulled together to maintain a lovely boardwalk that runs through the magical forest. This makes for a wonderful day trip, especially if you manage to catch a rare glimpse of a red squirrel! Since Anglesey is rather small, these make fantastic day trips from any of our Anglesey holiday cottages. Both Bull Bay and Rhosneigr are located within 30 minutes of Nant-y-Pandy, and within 35 minutes of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
