L’Eroica Britannia

Christopher

Are you looking for a great British adventure?  If you fancy something a little different and a bit stylish get yourself to the Peak District between the 20-22 June 2014 for L’Eroica Britannia.  It’s claimed to be ‘the most handsome bike race in the World’.

Literally translated as ‘the Heroes’ this event originated in Tuscany, Italy, where it has become an institution! It combines stylish cycle racing (all bikes have to be pre 1987 and lots of the competitors dress up in old fashioned cycle clothes), a celebration of great local food and traditional value shopping (from wet shaves to vintage fashion to home wares).

Centred around Bakewell (home of the Bakewell Pudding), there are 3 rides to choose from; 30, 55 and 100 miles, covering the fabulous scenery across the Peak District.  There is exclusive use of some of the private routes across the Chatsworth Estate as well as cycling through the recently opened Victorian rail tunnels on the Monsal Trails.  For non cyclists just turn up to watch – most of the villages on the route are hosting mini gastronomic and beer festivals!  So come and enjoy the Peak District in a way never seen before…..
